The Epicor Kinetic Add-Ons Worth Installing

Epicor Kinetic is deep, but no ERP covers everything. Here are the add-ons that extend your Kinetic environment for shipping, visibility, BI, and document management.

No ERP does everything

Epicor Kinetic is a capable manufacturing ERP. It handles orders, jobs, scheduling, shipping execution, financials, and more. But no single platform covers every operational need, and the Epicor team knows this. The ecosystem of ISV partners and add-ons exists because gaps are inevitable.

The good add-ons connect natively to the Epicor Kinetic REST API. They read and write data without middleware. They feel like extensions of your ERP, not bolted-on third-party tools.

Shipping execution: Epicor Quick Ship

Quick Ship is Epicor's built-in shipping execution module. It rate-shops across 40+ parcel and LTL carriers, prints labels, generates BOLs, and calculates carbon emissions. If your problem is getting packages out the door efficiently, Quick Ship is built for that.

What Quick Ship does not do: customer-facing visibility. There is no tracking portal. No interactive map. No way for your buyer to self-serve shipment status. Quick Ship is about outbound execution. Tracking is a different problem.

Shipment visibility: FreightPane

Full disclosure: we built FreightPane, so take this section accordingly. FreightPane connects to your Epicor Kinetic REST API and puts every shipment on a real-time interactive map. Your customers get branded tracking pages with carrier status, delivery milestones, and map visualization via a link. No login.

FreightPane reads pack slips, sales orders, and container data directly from Epicor. It auto-discovers your ShipVia carrier codes. Every record deep-links back to the Epicor form. It is read-only and never writes to your ERP.

FreightPane and Quick Ship work side by side: Quick Ship gets the shipment out the door, FreightPane lets your customer track it.

Business intelligence and reporting

Epicor ships with dashboards and BAQs (Business Activity Queries), but manufacturers who need deeper analytics, custom dashboards, or scheduled reporting often add a dedicated BI layer. Epicor's own Grow BI product handles this, and there are third-party options as well.

If you are making decisions based on production metrics, shipping KPIs, or financial performance, a BI tool on top of Epicor data can surface patterns that are hard to spot in the native ERP interface.

Document management beyond XFileAttch

Epicor stores document attachments via XFileAttch. For basic file attachments, it works fine. But if you need version control, approval routing, OCR on inbound documents, or integration with external document stores, the native capability has limits. Several ISV partners offer document management that extends what Epicor provides out of the box.

For shipping specifically, FreightPane surfaces Epicor document attachments (BOLs, commercial invoices, packing lists) on customer share pages, so your buyers can pull their own documents alongside tracking information.

What to ask every add-on vendor

When evaluating Epicor add-ons, the first question is always: "Does your tool connect to the Epicor Kinetic REST API directly, or do I need middleware?" Native API connections mean real-time data, fewer failure points, and no sync lag. Middleware-based integrations add complexity and maintenance burden.

The second question: "Is it read-only or does it write to my ERP?" Read-only tools carry zero risk to your data. Tools that write back need more careful evaluation of what they change and under what conditions.
